Getting chaptered for height and weight. Hi my son is being chaptered out due to weight. Relation to other separations. If i get a general under honorable conditions discharge do i get to keep my gi bill. The soldier fails to meet the army body composition standards per ar 600 9 and the sole reason for separation is failure to meet those standards. He has not completed his 4 year commitment. A chapter 18 separation action will only be used if the failure to meet weight control standards is the sole basis for separation.
Yes you do get to keep your gi bill however you will not be able to use it if you have a less than fully honorable dischargethere is a recourse though if you think and can prove your discharge status is incorrect. A soldier must be given reasonable opportunity to comply with and meet weight reduction goals. Under the awcp you will be required to weigh in at least once every six months. Participation in the army weight control program a soldier with such a medical condition will be processed through medical channels. He says its a chapter 18 honorable discharge and will receive 90 of his 911 gi bill. Now the guy who pulled in their belly gets a passing grade while the bodybuilder who spent too little time working on their traps wont be able to take leave and may possibly get chaptered out of the military.
The program requires you to meet specific weight standards which are based on their height weight and gender. Even the height test can be screwy if the person grading it decides to wing it or the weight is adjusted for clothes.
